Throughout one’s career, there will undoubtedly be some form of conflict. However, there are situations when physical clashes also occur, but verbal expression is the most common form. No matter how complex individuals attempt to address problems, there will always be threatening behaviour in specific industries, such as healthcare.
This is why when working in an aggressive or violent workplace, such as those in a mental health setting or on the front-line, Prevention Management of Violence and Aggression or PMVA training is now a legal requirement.
What is Breakaway Training?
Breakaway training is an essential part of the PMVA course, UK. As a result of this course, the workers of an organization and healthcare staff will learn how to defend themselves and others in an emergency. Compared to self-defence, Breakaway training teaches protection and escape skills in the event of aggressiveness or physical assaults.
This is essential for anybody who works in a healthcare setting because patients might become violent due to behavioural difficulties. This training is all about teaching a person how to handle physical aggression in the duty of care.
Need of Breakaway Training:
For two primary reasons, it is critical to engage in breakaway training:
- It teaches one how to defend themselves and others in the event of a physical assault in the first place.
- In addition to teaching individuals how to protect themselves and others, breakaway training informs them about health and safety laws and other important legal concepts.
According to Breakaway Training, signs of danger and warnings:
A person needs to be aware of warning and danger indications in breakaway training. There is a possibility of intervening and attempting to fix the problem if warning indicators are present.
However, if there are any danger signals, one should leave the area immediately and seek assistance from security personnel or the police. Warning and hazard indicators are included in the following list.
- Signs that something is wrong:
- Eye contact for the more extended time period
- Increased breath rate
- Standing tall with exaggerated movements.
- Quick movements
In addition to all these indications, fist-clenching, tense shoulders, pale facial colour, tightened lips over teeth, and hand raised above the waist are danger signs.
Breakaway Training Course by SBRT:
The breakaway training course offered by SBRT may be completed in a day or two, while more advanced courses can be completed in one or two full days. Understanding the reasons and build-up of an assault, how to dodge and fight kicks and punches, and post-incident activities, including record-keeping and debriefing, are all included in the Breakaway course of PMVA Training.
